Having done well until the sixth grade, he encountered disciplinary problems that led to a thrashing from the principal. Thus ended his formal education. He had reached the age when many students dropped out to go to work and help support their families, and Capone followed suit. Just prior to the outbreak of World War I, the Capones moved to Garfield Place.
