That relationship has been the subject of prolonged and intensive scholarly discussion over the last two to three decades. In this chapter I examine some of the different ways in which the relationship between biblical interpretation and systematic theology has been understood. 2 considers the question of the relationship between the two disciplines of biblical interpretation and systematic theology, as this has been discussed in debates about the definition of biblical theology. 3 I consider the distinct but related question of the way in which scripture might be used in systematic theology – again, with reference to some of the recent debates on this subject.
