In the moment that Farquharson crossed that overpass that night, those boys were not his; they were hers. They were Cindy's and they were the best way in the world to hurt her - forever. The plan had been there a long time; the decision to carry it out may have happened in a flash. But once he made the decision, he made the turn; and once he made the turn, there was no turning back. In that moment the kids weren't his anymore; they were the weapon against his wife, against his life, and against the world that had reduced him to that one vengeful and unforgivable act.

Farquharson: 'Well, I'm telling the truth. I blacked out. I had a coughing fit and I blacked out. I mean, I wouldn't do that'. ' Farquharson: 'I mean, I wouldn't do something deliberately like that, what people are trying to say. I had a coughing fit, and I blacked out and I can't remember anything.
An accident? Not even coincidence is that cruel - or specific. Three months later, when the TV and radio news broke one Sunday night that a family car had plunged into a dam west of Geelong and that three young boys, at least, had not survived the crash, the wider community took a collective breath of shock and grief. It was Father's Day. What a horrible thing to have happen on Father's Day. What a tragedy. How must the poor parents, if they survived, be feeling? Then the news carried a bit more detail.
