Blake catches glimpses of his ritual when he remembers the message that the fireman gave him on the way out. These prophecies, easily lost in the first viewing, describe Blake's particular fate. The fireman asks him to remember when the water was in his head and the landscape moved by. When Nobody places Blake in the canoe that will take him to Nobody's village, Blake remembers the saying about the landscape and the water. There are other echoes of this initial prophecy. When Blake looks up into a tree and sees it spinning as he stands motionless, he almost "recalls" his death as prophesied by the fireman.

The process of remembering is linked to wandering at this early moment in the film. The park is the scene of their wandering/remembering. It is a liminal space between the city and the country, civilization and wilderness. It negotiates between what is constrained and what is wild. It is only within this place of the meeting of boundaries where Chaim and Hersh can come together. And they must physically walk as they verbally wander. Wandering is the act of the exiled ones, the ones who are compelled to remember.
